Boundaries should employers set for social media - Essay Example Employees should limit themselves when it comes to the use of social media in the workplace because in continuing to indulge themselves, they will most likely end up using up the time of their employers, which might lead to negative results in their output. Therefore, employees have to limit their time on social networks and should only use them in situations where they have been able to clear all the work on their table for the day and they have nothing else to do but to kill time. According to Young (2010), to use social media at any time in the workplace would be detrimental to their work and would amount to their stealing their employerââ¬â¢s time. The answer to this question largely depends on whether an employee has accomplished the goals that have been set for him because if he has not, indulging in social media might be detrimental to his performance. Furthermore, it is necessary for employees to ensure that the keep social media usage, which is essentially part of their social lives, out of the workplace because to use it in such an environment is disruptive to their work. Therefore, if an employee has not accomplished his goals, to use social media would be equivalent to stealing the time of their employers. While an employee might have worked for a number of hours, this does not mean that he has to take his employerââ¬â¢s time by using social media. The number of hours that an employee has worked does not matter as long as he keeps away from social media and makes sure that he delivers on his goals. Therefore, using social media during work hours would be the same as time-wasting and has to be reduced to a minimum or discouraged. 2. The justification used by heavy social-media users to using company software and confidential date in the workplace might be based on their opinion that it is part of their right.
